Summary

HVAC Design-Build Partnership | Massachusetts

EEI has partnered with Ken’s Foods for more than 20 years as their trusted turnkey HVAC design-build firm, supporting continuous growth, evolving production needs, and strict food safety requirements across a 500,000-square-foot manufacturing campus. The facility includes a diverse mix of environments—refrigerated coolers, commercial kitchens, packaging halls, dry ingredient processing, offices, warehouses, and loading docks—each requiring highly specialized HVAC solutions.

EEI designs all food production HVAC systems to ISO-8 cleanroom standards at a minimum, incorporating high air change rates, HEPA filtration, stainless steel washdown-ready equipment, and advanced moisture and contamination control strategies. Through phased projects ranging from $50,000 to $5 million, EEI has delivered energy-efficient, code-compliant, and production-focused solutions while minimizing downtime in an active manufacturing environment.

Result:

A long-term, trusted partnership delivering energy-efficient, food-safe, and production-ready HVAC solutions that support Ken’s Foods’ operational demands, regulatory requirements, and growth over two decades.

Highlights

  • PC Packaging Hall Renovation: Reconfigured refrigerated spaces, reducing required cooling capacity by 130 tons, delivering significant energy savings. Designed a new 20,000 CFM custom RTU with stainless steel washdown interior, HEPA filtration, UV treatment, and advanced controls to manage sanitation moisture loads.
  • Life Safety Improvements: Engineered a hydrogen gas exhaust system for forklift battery charging areas where no prior ventilation existed.
  • Commercial Kitchen HVAC Standardization: Developed a repeatable HVAC design using Munters desiccant wheel technology, significantly reducing energy use by conditioning return air instead of relying on 100% makeup air.
  • Process & Production Spaces: Designed HVAC systems for dry ingredient mixing rooms, including dust collection, RTUs, and chillers.
  • Office & Administrative Expansion: Completed HVAC fit-out for a new front office addition utilizing RTUs and VAV systems.
